RYA OnBoard junior sailing and windsurfing
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
OnBoard is the RYA's grassroots junior sailing and windsurfing programme, offering young people the chance to explore life on the water through their local club or centre. Open to all, it is a safe and inclusive beginner programme where no previous experience or equipment is needed, with boats, buoyancy aids and wetsuits typically provided. Most children start from around age 8 and the programme runs up to age 18, progressing from RYA Stage 1 through the RYA Youth Schemes; a typical starter session lasts two to four hours and many clubs offer low-cost taster sessions and affordable junior membership. The RYA reports that 81% of children and young people felt more confident in themselves with OnBoard. Enquiries are handled via the RYA's online contact form.
