What is the programme?
A grant funding programme that supports local community groups and organisations to deliver sport and physical activity projects that create social impact (rather than just sport participation).
Who is it for?
Community organisations in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland (East Midlands)
Beneficiaries typically include:
Young people
Disadvantaged or inactive individuals
Underrepresented or marginalised groups
What does it aim to achieve?
Improve physical and mental wellbeing
Tackle inequality and inactivity
Use sport to support life skills, confidence, and community engagement
Create “better futures” through positive opportunities
Making Local Life Better
Fund aims
The Making Local Life Better Fund is made up of money from individual and corporate donors and seeks to prioritise smaller grassroots community, voluntary and charitable groups improving the lives of local people, particularly those who are vulnerable, under-represented or disadvantaged.
Grant themes include:
Arts, culture, and heritage
Education, training, and employment
Environment, wildlife, and biodiversity
Equity, inclusion, and fairness
Health (physical and mental) including social isolation, addiction issues and caring responsibilities
Poverty and disadvantage, including homelessness, housing, food and fuel poverty, debt advice.
Sport and recreation
Stronger communities and cohesion, including refugee support
