Coping Through Football (Leyton Orient Trust)
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
Coping Through Football is a social inclusion project run by Leyton Orient Trust with the London Playing Fields Foundation, working with the NHS, that uses football to engage adults and young people experiencing mental health issues. Most players have experienced social exclusion, unemployment, poor physical and mental health or a lack of social support. The aim is to help people get fitter, increase self-esteem and confidence, make new friends and get their lives back on track. The project has been recognised by the Department of Health as a model of best practice in recovery for people with long-term mental health problems. Alongside weekly sessions, players can watch, socialise or join social activities such as going to Leyton Orient FC matches.
