About the Role
Following a successful application to the Whole Family Support Third Sector Delivery Fund, the Foundation is recruiting a Family Support Coach to help establish Centre Circle in Falkirk. Delivered through a five-charity partnership providing practical, financial and wellbeing support, the role involves helping shape the local service using the Foundation's community connections and families' feedback.
The coach will work alongside families experiencing poverty, disadvantage, isolation or other challenges, including those who may feel unsure about approaching services. Building trust and following through on practical problems, the role helps parents, carers and children identify what matters to them and shape support around their priorities. The anticipated active caseload is approximately 50 families at differing levels of need, from practical guidance or supported referrals through to more sustained or intensive help, with priorities, risk and workload reviewed through supervision with the Project Lead. This is a family support role; football coaching experience is not required.
What You'll Do
Supporting families
Build trust through consistent, respectful contact, particularly with families who may be reluctant to approach services; ensure families have a voice in decisions about their support
Assess needs with families, agree goals and develop individual family support plans that build on their strengths
Manage the anticipated caseload of approximately 50 families across differing levels of need, reviewing support intensity, priorities, risk and capacity with the Project Lead and escalating workload concerns promptly
Provide practical support around benefits, income maximisation, food, transport, childcare, grants, money advice and employability, working within your knowledge and referring to specialist advice where needed
Recognise when specialist help is needed, make supported introductions and follow up referrals so families can access the help agreed with them
Review progress with families against agreed goals, adapting support plans to reflect their priorities and changing needs
Community engagement and partnership working
Undertake outreach to engage families who may not currently access formal support
Help families access Foundation programmes, activities and wider community opportunities
Work with schools, social work, health services, community organisations and other partners to coordinate support
Work closely with Foundation colleagues and Centre Circle partners, sharing relevant learning and identifying gaps in provision
Represent the Foundation professionally in community settings and partnership meetings
Safe and accountable practice
Recognise and respond promptly to safeguarding concerns, following Foundation procedures for children, young people and protected adults
Maintain accurate, timely and secure records of contacts, assessments, support, referrals and outcomes; share information appropriately in line with confidentiality and data protection requirements
Contribute to programme monitoring and evaluation, and report emerging needs, barriers and service improvements to the Project Lead
Follow Foundation policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, equality and professional conduct, using approved communication and record-keeping systems
Work collaboratively, support colleagues and offer constructive challenge where appropriate
Support and development
Receive regular supervision, support and planning meetings with the Project Lead; undertake relevant training and continuing professional development, and contribute to learning across the team
What They're Looking For
Essential
Experience of working directly with families, parents, carers, children, young people or communities, including people facing disadvantage
Experience of one-to-one support, key-working, casework or family support
Experience of identifying needs, agreeing goals and supporting positive outcomes
Experience of managing and prioritising a caseload, maintaining accurate confidential records and working within safeguarding procedures
Experience of partnership working and making or supporting referrals
Understanding of a strengths-based, whole-family approach and the challenges associated with poverty and disadvantage
Warm, reliable and non-judgemental, with the ability to listen sensitively, engage families who may be unsure about services and support their own decisions
Clear communication skills in listening, speaking and writing
Ability to organise and prioritise work, follow through on agreed actions, recognise professional limits and work with colleagues and partners
Commitment to fairness, respect, equality, diversity and inclusion, and to safeguarding children, young people, protected adults and families
Desirable
A relevant qualification in family support, community work, youth work, social care, education or a related area
Experience of community outreach, working in the voluntary sector or supporting families experiencing financial hardship
Knowledge of benefits, income maximisation and welfare support
Experience of working with schools, social work, health or other statutory services
Experience of outcome measurement or case management systems
Practical Details
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle required
