About the Organisation
AFC Wimbledon Foundation is the official charity of AFC Wimbledon, based at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Plough Lane. Through its Charitable Programmes department, the Foundation works with young people and communities across south-west London, using the reach of the club to open doors to education, training and employment. Its Employment & Skills programmes, including the EFL in the Community Training Ground programme and a growing Youth Hub, support young people facing barriers to take their next step into work or learning.
About the Role
The Foundation is looking for an Employment Coach to lead the recruitment, engagement and mentoring of young people aged 16–24 on the EFL in the Community Training Ground programme, helping participants progress into education, training and employment.
The postholder will also lead delivery of The King's Trust Achieve programme and play a key part in developing the Foundation's Youth Hub, shaping a welcoming and engaging space for local young people.
Through a mix of one-to-one and group mentoring, the Employment Coach will help young people overcome barriers, build confidence, develop employability and life skills, and access training, qualifications and work experience. Working alongside schools, employers, referral agencies and community partners, they will strengthen referral and progression pathways, track participant progress and make sure mentoring activity and outcomes are properly recorded.
The role reports to the Employment and Skills Manager.
What You'll Do
Lead the recruitment, engagement and mentoring of young people aged 16–24 on the Training Ground programme, supporting them towards education, employment and training (ETE) opportunities
Develop and deliver one-to-one and group mentoring sessions, building trusted relationships and helping young people identify their strengths, barriers and personal goals
Lead delivery of The King's Trust Achieve programme, supporting learners towards King's Trust qualifications, including portfolios of evidence, assessment requirements and internal quality assurance
Play a key role in developing the Foundation's Youth Hub, supporting the Employment & Skills Manager to create an inclusive space that responds to the needs of local young people
Support the Employment & Skills Manager to put in place a volunteering and work experience framework across the organisation, giving young people meaningful first steps into employment
Plan and deliver employability, life skills and personal development sessions, covering CV writing, interview preparation, workplace readiness, confidence and resilience
Identify and develop training, qualification, volunteering and work experience opportunities with internal departments, local businesses and external partners
Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, colleges, employers, referral agencies, local authorities and community partners to create effective referral pathways into Training Ground and wider Foundation opportunities
Keep up to date with local education, training, employment and support provision so young people are referred into the right opportunities
Take ownership of all Training Ground KPIs, contractual requirements and reporting deadlines, keeping accurate records of mentoring notes, action plans, attendance, outcomes and progression data
Work with the Communications Team to capture case studies, success stories and participant journeys for promotion and impact reporting
Work with the Head of Programmes and Employment & Skills Manager to spot service gaps and development opportunities, and approach suitable partners and funders
Follow the Foundation's safeguarding policy, creating a safe environment for young people and vulnerable adults and reporting any concerns to the Safeguarding Lead
Act as an ambassador for equality, diversity and inclusion, and adhere to all Foundation policies including Health & Safety, Financial Authorisation, Confidentiality and GDPR
What They're Looking For
Essential
Qualifications
A relevant higher education or industry-recognised qualification, or at least five years' experience in the charity, employment or education sector
A mentoring, youth work or health and social care qualification
Emergency Aid and Safeguarding Children certificates
Full driving licence and the ability to travel to activities and meetings across London and surrounding areas
Experience
Designing, delivering and leading employment, mentoring and training programmes to achieve set outcomes
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage several strands of work at once
An outstanding track record of developing employment and skills opportunities for hard-to-reach groups
Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and quality assurance relevant to the sector
Knowledge of community club organisations and football charity programmes
Good understanding of EDI practice and policy, and of local demographics and social needs
Skills and Behaviours
Ability to lead, motivate and influence young people, participants, staff and partners
Ability to build strong relationships across departments and organisations
Strong analytical and ICT skills, with the ability to analyse data and produce reports
Secure and professional handling of confidential information
